FAQ’s
Are these races?
The events are NOT races, we do not record a riders time and there are no prizes. They are intended as a personal challenge.
Can I enter on the day of the event?
No ‘on the day’ entries for any of the events.
What personal details do I need to register with Sientries?
An accurate and up to date contact name and phone number with SiEntries for the Event Organisers to use in case of an emergency.
Are the routes signposted?
There is no signage saying ‘Yorkshire Divide’ out on the hills, moors and valleys. The routes on all our events are on bridleways, Sustrans greenways along the urban fringe, open access moorland, restricted-by ways, sections of the ace Pennine Bridleway, the Trans Pennine Trail and minor public roads. Riders are expected to self navigate their way across their chosen route using the GPX file provided. A GPX file for the event you have entered will be sent to your email address a week prior to the event.
What is the minimal kit I need to carry?
Wear a helmet that complies with the latest EN1078, ANSI Z90/4 or SNELL standards. Waterproof clothes including full length trousers and jacket. Warm layers for changing into stored in a dry bag. Front and rear lights.
What type of bike can I enter with?
All of our routes cover a variety of terrain including cobbles, grass, peat, grit stone, gravel that is smooth, gravel that is loose, gravel full of potholes, concrete track ways, stone slabs, tarmac and everything in between!
We recommend tyres of 40mm upwards and any of the following bikes will get you around the routes: Gravel bike / Cyclocross bike / Mountain bike / Fat bike and Single Speed if that is your thing.
E-MTB’s and E-Gravel bikes are fine on the Mills n Moors, Pennine Skyline (all 3 events), the Seven Valleys and Calder Divide Trail but not on the Source to Sea Trail (730km).
Who gets to enter?
Bike events should reflect the wider society from which they grow and therefore we welcome entry from all individuals. On our Calder Divide Trail and Seven Valleys events we adopt the practice of having a camping field set aside for women, trans, non-binary if a rider wants to choose that option. There is also a lower price ticket for those aged 25 years and under.
Will I get a record of my time?
The Seven Valleys and the Calder Divide Trail events are intended as a personal challenge and not a race and so Event Officials will NOT record your start / finish time. If a FKT is set by a female and male rider we will use Strava times to set and publish these records.
On the long distance and multi day event - the Source to Sea Trail - we will use the time recorded on the Follow my Challenge web page created as you start from and return to the event hub in Mytholmroyd. This is a ‘single stage event’ where the clock starts when a rider crosses the start line and only stops when they return to the finish line.
On the Mills n Moors rides we do not set any time limits or record riders times
Do I need insurance?
The event organiser, Yorkshire Divide, is a member of Cycling UK and our events are covered to £10 million public liability. It is peace of mind for the rider if they are also insured for loss or damage to their bike and personal liability through either British Cycling or Cycling UK.
What happens if the route changes?
The organisers reserve the right to adjust the routes ahead of the day. A route may be edited or the range of route options amended to take account of conditions or to make the routes fit into what is deemed practical to manage on the day (e.g., flooding, landslips, farmers blocking a track, erosion of sections of track which necessitate a diversion etc ) but the organisers will notify all participants who have signed up by that point of the changes.
