Bikepacking events have been around for over 10 years and in this time a handful of principles have become accepted as the way to do things fairly.  On the long distance Yorkshire Divide events the key principles are:

Ride under your own power

No drafting, no e-bikes.

Ride the route set out from start to finish

If you need to leave the route for any reason you must rejoin it at the same spot.

Sleep, eat and drink using resources available to all riders

No private resupply, no private lodging, no gear or food caches.

Ride solo, as a pair or if you meet a fellow rider and enjoy each others company then ride with others

Riders can enter solo or as declared pairs.

Solo riders should be completely self-supported throughout the ride.

Solo riders should not spend extended periods of time riding with others.

Pairs can share resources, draft, and help each other.

No support crews.
