The Events
Each of the three GPX files are emailed to riders on the Wednesday before the ride.
The January Event Hub is at Cycle Gear at 68 Horton Street in Halifax
The February Event Hub is at Blazing Saddles at 43 West End in Hebden Bridge
Register in the shop on Sunday between 8am - 10am (NO 'on the day entry')
Any gravel bike / mountain bike / E-bike is welcome and would get you around the route
2. On the day
Enjoy a relaxed tea / coffee / biscuits inside the bike shop BEFORE your ride
There will be hot home made soup and bread rolls AFTER your ride back at the bike shops
Pick up your embroidered cloth badge inside the shop when you register
Head off when you're ready as there is NO ‘mass start’
There are toilet facilities in the shop that you can use
Both Halifax and Hebden Bridge are served by trains on the Leeds - Manchester line and there are lots of car parking spaces (map of a few car park locations can be found below)
3. The routes
Each route is self-guided with no way markings saying ‘Mills n Moors route’
You will receive all three gpx route files in the week leading up to the event
We ride on bridleways, farmers tracks, forest trails, urban greenways and the canal towpath
The routes are 90% ‘off-road’ on grass, gravel, peat and stone
All the routes are 95% ride able in winter conditions as we have selected hard packed gravel tracks but on both the January and February events there are two very steep tracks where most riders will be pushing their bikes uphill
Its your choice which route to ride as any type of bike is fine on each route as the ‘blue’, ‘red’ and ‘black’ refers to how strenuous the trail is by distance and elevation and not by how rough the tracks are.
Minimum age of 12 years old when accompanied by a parent / guardian
4. The ride
The rides on the 'Mills n Moors Series' are a personal challenge.
They are not races and there is no ‘mass start'
Some downhill and uphill sections are physically challenging and if uncertain of your ability its best to get off and push
There are tracks across open moorland often with their own climate so appropriate layers and waterproofs are vital
A list of kit that you should carry is at the foot of this page
